We are well aware that porn can be both addictive and dangerous. It dehumanizes people and encourages sexual exploitation. Porn also deprives us of joy and isolates us. The truth is that there is hope, but you must be intentional about it and prepared to take the necessary measures to get there. So keep reading if you're fed up with the never-ending cycle of temptation, sin, and shame.
In Matthew 5:28, the Lord says, "But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart." Porn is not only a moral failing but also a clear transgression of God's commandments. We do not own our bodies or the bodies of others we lust after. Porn is a perversion of God's intended design for sex, which was created for marriage. The healing process can only begin when we repent and seek forgiveness from God for transgressing his intentional design and purpose.
"I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfil the lust of the body," writes Paul in Galatians 5:16. We won't wander around looking for love in all the wrong places if we discover our significance, love, and happiness in Jesus. God's unmerited grace can also sustain you because it was sufficient to deliver you in the first place. Furthermore, the Holy Spirit is our sustainer and comforter; He will teach you all truth.
Lust is an insatiable appetite that won't let up until it obliterates you. So don't let yourself off the hook just because you can excuse it. Make a promise to God that you won't look at anything he considers sin. Get internet filtering for your phone, tablet, and computer- which could aid in fighting serious addictions. Keep your language in check, and ask God to cleanse your heart. "But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for saints;" Ephesians 5:3. Jesus made it crystal clear that out of the heart, the mouth speaks. He means that perverted dialogue comes from a depraved heart. The Holy Spirit who resides inside you can also be grieved. So stop using sexual innuendos or references that would make the Holy Spirit uncomfortable. Take mental command of the situation. "And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God." Romans 12:2.
Although the thoughts that enter your head may not be under your control, you have a choice as to which ones become ingrained and continue to flourish there. The apostle Paul advises us to think about "whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things" Philippians 4:8.
Remember, King David, sinned against God while he was idle, lusting for his neighbour's wife instead of fighting with his army. Instead of sitting around doing nothing, get excited about the work God has given you. Going on the defensive will not help you win wars; you must take the initiative. Fight the good fight, whether married or single, young or old!
