For You have been a strength to the poor,
A strength to the needy in his distress,
A refuge from the storm,
A shade from the heat;
For the blast of the terrible ones is as a storm against the wall.
- Isaiah 25:4
God is faithful, and he will not allow you to be tempted beyond your capacity but will provide you with a way out - a refuge from the storm - that you may be able to bear it.
We must experience the storms of life and feel their intensity, its chilling blow; only through such experiences can we ever know the comfort, the witness of Him who is our "Refuge from the Storm."
The Lord protects those who put their trust in him. The Lord has always been and will continue to be the refuge of the distressed believer. He teaches them to flee to the shelter he has provided.
Are you seeking refuge in Him today?
When I hear the word refuge, I immediately think of safety. It is, however, much more than that when you seek God as your Refuge.
Let's look at how Refuge is defined:
Shelter or safety from danger, hardship, protection, and so on.
Anything to which one can turn for assistance, relief, or escape.
Anyone who makes the decision to follow Jesus receives God's Refuge. This is called salvation. We are saved from the darkness and brought into the safety of the kingdom of light through the Refuge of salvation.
Psalm 103:4 describes how God protects people, "Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies."
Jesus defends us against the devil's argument that we deserve to burn in hell. The Lord also warned us that we would face difficulties in this world but that he had overcome the world.
We can approach God in prayer and take Refuge in his word. We find Refuge in prayer when we commune with the one who loves us. As the good shepherd speaks to our hearts, we may find guidance that guides us away from danger. Through his promises, the sanctuary we find in his word is everything we need for our life. God's peace can keep us safe from worry and anxiety. "and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." (Philippians 4:7).
In the midst of difficulty, we find Refuge in hope, and we are safeguarded against dangerous thoughts and behaviour when we pursue God's transformative work in us.
"And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose." (Romans 8:28).
Haven’t we walked through the storm long enough? Do we want our pain to be our only story?
When we turn to God for help, he is our Refuge.
Christ is the living water for the thirsty soul!
