Psalm
34:12-14
What man is he that desireth life, and loveth many days, that he may see good? Keep thy tongue from evil and thy lips from speaking guile. Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.
- BsL
This psalm explains how to live a long and fruitful life. Who wouldn't want a life like that? Among the psalmist's instructions, he specifically tells us to "work hard at living in peace with others."
We work hard at so many things— business, careers, school, projects, activities, housework all demand our very best. However, the Lord says we are to work just as hard at living in peace with each other. As His Spirit of peace lives through us and impacts the lives of others, we should strive for harmony in our relationships. It all starts with a prayer.
As you pray for peace with others, God's Spirit may lead you to forgive, cooperate, serve, give, or listen. As you do this, you will be sowing seeds that will eventually yield a harvest of peace.
Is there a relationship in your life that is not peaceful, possibly marked by tension or conflict, than by love? Ask the Lord today what you need to do. Pray so that you may live in harmony with that person. Seek guidance through the scripture. The answer you're looking for is waiting for you. God will open your eyes, directing you where you may have contributed to the conflict or tensions with others. A place where both parties can humbly seek forgiveness and sow seeds of peace for the future.
The word of God points us to - Confess your trespasses (sin) to one another, and pray for one another that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. - James 5:16
