Psalm
30:2-3

O Lord my God, I cried out to You,

And You healed me.

O Lord, You brought my soul up from the grave;

You have kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit.

Hands reaching out

How many times is it directed toward the wrong things? People often look for help in riches and wealth. They may place their trust in power and prestige. They seek fame and fortune, hoping that they'll find what they desire in these things—some work at preserving their youth to gain hope and help. But the truth is that these things will not provide the lasting help and satisfaction that most people crave. The positive influence of these things is fleeting at best and may, in fact, not even be a positive influence at all. There is only One who can bring the help that will keep us from the pit of death.

In this Psalm, David had emerged from an experience of chastening by the Lord for a sin he committed. He praised Him that His anger is temporary, but His favour is permanent. David was not severed from the Lord's love by his sin or God's discipline. A believer may stray from the Lord's fellowship, but he still belongs to Him. He's like a sheep who wandered away from the flock. It still belonged to the shepherd, who went out looking for it, discovered it, took it on his shoulders, rejoiced, and returned it to the flock (Luke 15:4–6).

We often cry to the Lord for healing in our lives and bodies. We frequently pray to God for a vital miracle for a friend or acquaintance who has been diagnosed with a terrible illness. Even yet, we often fail to thank and praise God for His healing touch in our lives and the restoration of our health. Too frequently, we merely compliment the doctor's abilities, hail the effectiveness of the given drug, or revel in the health-promoting substance provided by a loving friend for our problem!

However, in this Psalm, we find David singing a song of sincere thanks and praise to the Lord, extolling His goodness and grace for returning him to health and strength: "O LORD my God," he exclaims, "I cried to You for help, and You healed me!" We don't know what was ailing David. Still, his illness certainly thrilled his enemies. The Psalm begins: "I will extol You, O LORD, for You have lifted me up, and have not let my enemies rejoice over me."

David's health issue appeared to be life-threatening; we read: "O LORD, You have brought up my soul from the grave. You have kept me alive, so that I would not go down to the pit. "Each day of our lives is planned by God, and none of us know when we or those we love will breathe our final breath.

We are all aware that every night of weeping is followed by mornings of joy. Still, we should never forget to thank God and celebrate His holy name for His goodness when God's grace has reversed a life-threatening sickness and delivered life-giving health and strength. Our Heavenly Father deserves our undivided gratitude and grateful praise. We should not forget to offer prayers, supplication, and thanksgiving in every area of life, not just when He generously listens to our call. It is important to recognize God's hand at work in people's lives through prayer. So, like the psalmist, let us cry out to the Lord for assistance.

God is the source of infinite love. He is the One who possesses infinite resources. God is the source of all power. Call out to the One who is more than capable of providing whatever help and hope you need. Our Heavenly Father's constants love and desire is to be our help. Only he can satisfy. Only he can give hope that does not disappoint us.
