Psalm
29:11
The Lord will give strength to His people; The Lord will bless His people with peace.
- BsL
As the thunder rolls and you stumble in the wind, who is it that you look to for help? Who hears your cry and stands to raise you again? Yes, there are times when we forget that there is peace in the storm. There is an anchor called "Jesus" who is able to and will bring peace in the midst of your storm.
So why are you troubled today when peace is yours for the asking? The Lord is forever omnipotent and all-powerful. He is without peer in the heavens above, the earth beneath, or the oceans below. The Lord will grant grace to the humble heart and strengthen the weary. His strength offers protection, help, mercy, and joy. This majestic psalm by David extols from beginning to end the splendour and wonder of the Lord God Almighty, whose name is great, whose glory is forever, and who is deserving of honour and worship for all of eternity.
Psalm 29:11 says, "The Lord will give strength to His people; The Lord will bless His people with peace." As Christians, we know that strength and peace are two of the most important gifts that God can give us.
First, let's examine the first part of the verse: "The Lord will give strength to His people." This speaks to the idea that God is the ultimate source of strength for believers. In other words, when we feel weak or overwhelmed, we can turn to God and find the strength we need to persevere. This idea is echoed in other parts of the Bible, such as Isaiah 40:29, which says, "He gives power to the weak, And to those who have no might He increases strength."
It's important to note that the strength that God offers is not just physical strength but also emotional, mental, and spiritual strength. For example, in Philippians 4:13, we read, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." This verse reminds us that with God's help, we can overcome any obstacle that comes our way.
Now let's turn to the second part of Psalm 29:11, where we see that the Lord will bless his people with peace. In John 14:27, Jesus says, "Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." This Peace that Jesus offers is different from the world. It is not dependent on external circumstances but is a deep and abiding peace that comes from knowing and trusting in God.
In Philippians 4:6-7, Paul writes, "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." Here we see that peace comes from bringing our worries and fears to God in prayer and trusting that he will take care of us.
So what does all of this mean for us as Christians? It means that the Lord has blessed us with every spiritual blessing, and all His promises to us are all 'yes' and 'amen' in Jesus Christ, our Lord. All that we have to do is to commandeer them so that no matter how fiercely the storms of life batter our tiny boat, we have confidence in the One Who rules the tempest with His Word and causes the stormy seas to be still.
No matter what life throws your way, you can have confidence in the truth of God's Word and joyously proclaim, "The Lord is my strength and He is my peace." So let us turn to him in prayer and trust, knowing that he will give us everything we need to face whatever comes our way. Remember, your enemy is already defeated.
Greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world.
