Isaiah
51:1

Listen to Me, you who follow after righteousness, You who seek the Lord: Look to the rock from which you were hewn, And to the hole of the pit from which you were dug.

Rock of salvation, Jesus Christ

- BsL

It's difficult to comprehend why Israel, a nation that was so blessed, would turn away from the God of their fathers and fall into such blatant apostasy, and this is also representative of the church today, for in spite of the immeasurable spiritual blessings and benefits bestowed upon the Body of Christ, so many are pursuing a different gospel, rejecting the inerrant Word of God, and worshipping a Christ created in their own image.

But in the Body of Christ today, there are those who refuse to be seduced by the worldly practices of the apostate church and instead fight the good fight of faith, seizing the eternal life to which the church is called, and behaving in a way that is honourable to the gospel of our Lord and Saviour.  How crucial it is that we constantly feed ourselves on the inspired Word of God and the sound doctrine contained within its pages when so many people today refuse to listen to good teaching and others are being led astray by every wind of doctrine.

This verse serves as an encouragement to all believers who strive to live a righteous life and seek to know the Lord more intimately. It calls us to remember our spiritual heritage, to look back at the rock from which we were cut and the quarry from which we were hewn. In other words, we must remember where we came from and recognize that our salvation and identity as God's children are rooted in Him.

As Christians, we are called to pursue righteousness, not just in our actions but also in our thoughts and attitudes. This pursuit can be challenging at times, but we are not alone. In Matthew 6:33, Jesus tells us to "seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." When we seek after God and His righteousness, He will provide for our needs.

In addition, we are called to fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith. Hebrews 12:2 says, "Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God." Jesus is the rock from which we were cut, the foundation of our faith, and the source of our salvation.

Finally, we are reminded in Isaiah 51:1 to look to the quarry from which we were hewn. This refers to the community of believers that we are a part of. We were not meant to live out our faith alone but in fellowship with one another. Hebrews 10:24-25 says, "And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching."

In conclusion, Isaiah 51:1 reminds us to remember our spiritual heritage and to look to the rock from which we were cut and the quarry from which we were hewn. Let us continue to fix our eyes on Jesus, and fellowship with one another, we can live out our faith in a way that honours God and brings glory to His name.
